Pleasure - Gabriele D'Annunzio
Reading | Pleasure Gabriele D'Annunzio
There are two women who command his special regard: the beautiful young widow and former lover Elena, and the married, pure, virgin-like Maria. In Andrea's pursuit of the exalted heights of extreme pleasure, he plays them against each other, spinning a sadistic web of lust and deceit. At first, he courts them separately, only meeting Maria after Elena has been absent from his life for over a year; later, when they are both near enough for him to court, he decides to try and initiate affairs with them both, incensed after their separate pleas to him to love them as sisters. The Black Sash Overall, definitely a book to be picked up, simply for the writing alone. I'm a little bit disappointed in Andrea. After all it seems he overplayed his hand and lost both the woman he claimed to love so much, he does not seem look back at himself and if he is happy now the game is over. But maybe I look from a woman point of view maybe his love works different in the grandeur of his pursuit of beauty and pleasure. Happy Reading
